(Extract from the Man Kwok Yat Po, Canton, 9th Feb., 1927)

Conversation between Hung Yung Chi, the Minister of

Industry and our Reporter.

The Ministry of Industry will be established in Canton.

Dr. Hung will act in this post in addition to that of

Treasury Commissioner and take charge of all affairs at the

rear in connection with the Ministry of Finance.

(From the Chung Wah She)

The latest and most trustworthy report from Nanchang states that the appointment of Hung Yung Chi to be the Minister of Industry in the Nationalist Government and Commissioner of the Kwong Tung Provincial Treasury, has been approved by the Central Political Council. But no official communique in this respect has yet been received here. Probably this is owing to the delay in the trans- mission of telegrams and anyhow it is only a question of time. Dr. Hung arrived at Canton on the 29th last month. He put up at Sung Kung Kun (Mr. T. V. Soong's residence) at

the South Bund. Our

Our reporter called on him yesterday to make a few inquiries into these matters. Dr. Hung received

Dr. him personally, and had a long conversation with him. Hung is a native of Shantung and is a descendant of Confu- cius. He is a relative of the late President Sun and the

Minister T. V. Soong. He was a student in America 20 years ago. He gained the degree of LL.D. in the Oberlin (?) College, America. When he returned to China after graduation, he held many important posts. Recently he has been the senior advisor to the Northwestern Army, and also the senior diplomatic advisor to the Nationalist Government. Last year he again went to America to travel.
